Our top warm weather wine is back!
The deep pink color, enticing aromatics and summer fruit flavors, have made AVV dry Rosé of Sangiovese a hit with wine drinkers. Our 16th vintage of this popular pink wine continues the tradition.
2021 was nearly a perfect grow season, though it began with a cold start, and lack of rain. The weather warmed up, but the drought continued. This was followed by weeks of steady daytime heat and cool evenings. The berries ripened evenly, but due to the ongoing drought berry size was smaller this year. Harvest began quickly and yields were a bit lighter than in prior vintages.
The grapes were gently pressed and held for 3 hours to get the proper color in the press. The juice was sent to a tank where it was cold settled for close to 48 hours and then racked off its sediment to another tank for fermentation, where it was inoculated with a French isolate yeast. To preserve the bright aromatics and fresh fruit flavors the juice fermented slowly at a chilly 50º.
Year after year our Rosé is recognized as one of the country’s best, and the 2021 Rosé doesn’t disappoint. This vintage is a touch richer and drier than last year (devoted fans may compare it to the 2018). Aromas of guava, strawberry, watermelon and raspberry fill the glass, while big flavors of watermelon, strawberry, peach, berries and nice minerality keep you smiling. This is pure California sunshine in a glass. With bright acidity and a long dry finish this wine appeals to everyone.
