The 2022 Wine Club Reserve is splurge worthy!
Decades ago we created a wine club so that AVV fans could enjoy regular shipments of our new releases. Our club has grown with many members enjoying both the wines and new friends they have met through the club. One of the member’s favorite events is our Spring Bash.
The highlight of our Spring Bash is the competition where teams vie for the chance to create the blend for our Wine Club Reserve. This spirited, educational and competitive event is led by veteran Winemaker Kevin Hall. With much fanfare we returned to an in-person event in 2023, with components selected by Kevin from the 2022 harvest.
2022 kicked off with a lack of rain from the ongoing drought, warm spring, and early summer. Relatively mild summer temperatures allowed the grapes to mature evenly. Harvest began quickly and yields were a bit lighter than in prior vintages. At harvest, the quality of the fruit was excellent with natural acidity and intense flavors. The components were caves aged for 16 months in French and American oak barrels.
This classic blend created by the winning team “Silver Sippers” was named the top wine after much debate and tasting. In the glass ripe aromas of cassis, plum, black cherry are followed by notes of chocolate and oak. Fruit flavors of plum, red and black cherry are balanced by nice acidity on the finish. This is a savory wine, with rich and concentrated flavors. Some might even compare it to a young Right Bank Bordeaux!
